About Our Business
Born in the Spirit of Community
In 2008, the downtown Great Bend area received a huge boost in energy and traffic when a group of passionate community investors opened eight new businesses under the auspices of an organization known as MyTown. Their goal was to bring more events, shopping, and demand for office space back to the downtown area. And they did just that. One of those eight businesses was Perks Coffee Shop.
Continuing a Legacy for Small Town Service
In 2018, Great Bend resident January Pecora purchased the business after nearly 20 years working in the banking and finance industry. As a transplant from Arizona just a few years before, she and her family have chosen to make Great Bend their hometown and are now investing in its success. "My goal is to maintain the friendly, small town atmosphere that embodies the quality of life in rural Kansas. Along with a welcoming atmosphere, we will have a delicious menu of hot and cold drinks, and homemade food and desserts."
A Monument in Historical Great Bend
The City of Great Bend was founded in the late 1800s, and the building that now houses our coffee shop has been an important monument in the downtown landscape for most of that time. For many years, the main floor held retail and restaurant spaces while the second story housed the Hotel Zarah, named after Fort Zarah nearby.
Some Things Never Change
While modern amenities and cultural changes have shifted the appearance of the vehicles and landscape surrounding the historical downtown district, one thing remains the same. The small town service and friendly atmosphere created so long ago is a vital part of any business' success in rural America. At Perks Coffee Shop, we are proud of the historical heritage in our facility, and are committed to carrying on the legacy for customer service and business excellence now and for many years to come!
